Kuwait, 11 July, 2011: Young Kuwaitis are getting a chance to explore a career in retail this summer through a month-long internship programme run by M H Alshaya, the region’s leading retailer, in partnership with the Manpower Government Restructuring Programme (MGRP). Retail continues to expand in the region, creating exciting job opportunities for young people. Alshaya’s intern programme, which is now in its eleventh year, is all about showing the diversity of careers open to young Kuwaitis considering a future in this vibrant business sector. The company is proud to work with the MGRP to support the development of young Kuwaiti men and women. Alshaya is the largest private sector company operating a summer programme in Kuwait.
The students, who are from various high schools, colleges, and Universities in Kuwait, will participate in the four-week professional summer training programme throughout July. They will spend four-hour shifts every day in stores across Kuwait including locations within The Avenues, Souk Sharq and Marina Mall and will have the opportunity to work with leading retail brands including H&M, P.F. Chang’s, Pinkberry and Bath & Body Works. All the participants registered for the programme through the MGRP, who are responsible for fostering an understanding of employment opportunities in the private sector.
“Young people are Kuwait’s future and it is very encouraging to see so many of them chose to take four weeks out of their summer holiday to focus on their development,” said Mohammed Alshaya, Executive Chairman of M.H. Alshaya. “This is our largest summer programme to date and its popularity says a lot about young people’s growing awareness of careers in the private sector - which is good news for our economy. We are delighted to support the MGRP in this important programme and we hope to see many of the students come back to us when they have graduated and are looking for full time careers.”
