Alshaya Group and MGRP celebrate successful collaboration designed for Kuwaiti youth
Over 100 Kuwaiti students who participated in this year’s Manpower and Government Restructuring Programme (MGRP) were congratulated for successfully completing their retail summer internship programme across Alshaya stores during July.
The popular annual internship initiative, run by Alshaya Group in partnership with MGRP, saw students gain an invaluable learning experience as they worked at leading international brands including Starbucks, Mothercare, American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, M.A.C, Pottery Barn, and KidZania to name a few.
During the four-week programme, interns gained an intensive insight in all aspects of store operations, including sales, promotions, customer service, merchandising and stock management – ideal preparation for those interested in a career in retail.
“We take great pride in supporting Kuwaiti youth and shaping their future through numerous initiatives. Our partnership with Alshaya offers a platform to youngsters to explore the world of retail by giving them the opportunity to experience it first-hand at their stores,” said Ahmad Al-Mousa, Director of Public Authority for Manpower.
“The number of students applying to Alshaya’s programme has steadily increased over the years, reflecting the growing interest from Kuwaiti youth in discovering more about working in the retail sector. Developing their skills is an important part of our commitment to the community and we are very pleased to support the MGRP by providing this valuable work experience opportunity.” said Mr. Paul Williams, Director of Learning & Development at Alshaya Group.
Every year, hundreds of students participate in the Alshaya summer internship programme. The programme is testimony to the strong partnership between Alshaya and the MGRP and their shared commitment to support economic growth by developing national employment opportunities in the private sector.
