Abu Dhabi, 8 January 2015: More than 50 Emirati students have successfully completed two-week retail training internships during their midterm holiday as part of a partnership between international retail franchise operator M.H. Alshaya Co. and the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical & Vocational Education & Training (ACTVET).
The training programme, ‘Yes to Work’, is an initiative under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs of the UAE, to introduce Emirati youth to careers in the private sector. The initiative aims to give Emirati youth the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience at retail stores, gaining valuable skills that will help them as they plan their future.
The programme, which ran from 28 December 2014 to 8 January 2015, saw young Emirati men and women receive practical training on sales, customer service, stock management, and other retail skills at some of the leading international brands that Alshaya operates.
Mohammed Abdulaziz Alshaya, the Executive Chairman of M.H. Alshaya Co., said the company’s participation in the initiative was part of its commitment to the communities it served. The programme supports Alshaya’s goal of developing and enabling Emirati youth considering careers in the retail sector.
“At Alshaya, we’re committed to enabling and empowering young Emirati men and women. The ‘Yes to Work’ initiative is a great opportunity for young people to gain valuable knowledge and experience in retail and other sectors. We are proud to contribute to this programme, and hope to have provided an unforgettable experience for the young people who took part in it,” said Mr Alshaya.
The UAE is globally recognised for its vibrant retail sector, and Alshaya provides a range of exciting career opportunities for young people. With a portfolio of more than 70 world-leading retail brands, Alshaya operates over 2,600 retail stores, including more than 600 stores in the UAE.
