Kuwait, 2 September 2013: The Alshaya Summer Retail Internship Programme, operated in partnership with Kuwait’s Manpower and Government Restructuring Programme (MGRP) has returned once again this summer, providing young Kuwaiti students with training opportunities in the dynamic world of retail. As one of the world’s leading retail franchise companies, M.H. Alshaya Co. is able to offer talented and enthusiastic young men and women the experience of four weeks of in-store training and development, working within some of the world’s leading retail brands.

The Alshaya Summer Retail Internship Programme is an annual initiative which takes place during the students’ summer break in mid-August running through into September. Now in its sixth year, the programme provides Kuwaiti students from various schools, with four weeks of daily four-hour shifts in a range of Alshaya’s stores located in The Avenues, Marina Mall and Souq Sharq. This year, brands involved in the programme are Debenhams, Starbucks, American Eagle Outfitters, H&M, P.F. Chang’s, Bath & Body Works and the recently opened KidZania Kuwait. The work placements offer a diverse learning and development experience for the interns.

Retail is one of the fastest growing sectors in the region and offers diverse career paths for young people who want to work in a fast-moving private sector environment. With MGRP’s continuous support Alshaya is delighted to be considered one of the top choices in Kuwait for internships.

“Developing our youth is important to ensure the future of a vibrant economy for Kuwait. As part of our commitment to our local community, Alshaya continuously seeks to provide young Kuwaitis with opportunities in retail,” commented Mohammed Alshaya, Executive Chairman of M. H. Alshaya Co. “I am sure that these young individuals, who are discovering the retail industry first-hand, will benefit from their experience. I hope that many go on to explore the diverse career opportunities that exist in this dynamic and growing industry.”

As part of the students’ work experience, each participant is introduced to the essential concepts of how a store is run and managed. The training includes coaching in sales, promotions, customer service, merchandising and stock management. The Alshaya Summer Internship Programme provides interns with a full understanding of the jobs and career opportunities available in the retail industry and in addition they are advised about the qualifications and skills necessary for a promising career in retail.
