Kuwait, 28 August 2012: With a growing interest in private sector careers, young Kuwaitis who love retail are discovering Alshaya’s Retail Management Programme, a two-year professional training course designed to develop the retail managers of the future. Introduced earlier this year, the RMP is now inviting further young Kuwaitis to apply for the next course due to start later this year.
Part of M.H. Alshaya Co.’s ongoing commitment to developing the skills and talents of Kuwaiti youth, the Retail Management Programme is introducing retail as an exciting career choice which offers promising possibilities for personal growth. Over the two years of the course, participants are offered the chance to work within Alshaya’s wide portfolio of international retail franchise brands including Debenhams, H&M, Mothercare, Office Depot and Pottery Barn.
Great managers really understand what makes a business tick so each participant starts with the ‘retail basics’, learning the fundamentals about how a well-managed store is run. In addition, they will be able to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom by working full time at different stores operated by Alshaya. Students are introduced to a wide range of subjects including sales techniques, customer care, marketing, merchandising, store displays and retail store management. By the end of the training period, the students will reach the level of assistant sales manager and will have acquired the skills and knowledge needed to continue their retail careers within Alshaya.
Participants will benefit from a practical introduction to all aspects of store management and operations, with the goal of building their experience and introducing them to retail best practice. Alshaya’s proven expertise in this industry and its commitment to international standards of operations means that young Kuwaiti men and women will be put through a structured, first-rate development programme that will pave the way for future success in the retail sector.

The Retail Management Programme is one of a number of related initiatives created by Alshaya which are designed to introduce young Kuwaitis to a career in retail and to develop those with talent. Alshaya also runs a dedicated six month graduate recruitment programme, now in its 12th year, as well as annual summer student internships which give attendees the chance to gain experience working in a retail store.
