Officially known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the country is sprinkled with ruins from past cultures along with the architectural creations of Arab and Islamic influences. With the Dead Sea in the northwest and the tip of the Red Sea in the southwest, Jordan also houses the world-renowned site of Petra - the ancient capital of the Nabataeans dynasty with its spectacular facades carved into sandstone cliffs.

Jordan‘s principal natural resource consisted of phosphates it was the world‘s third largest phosphates producer and potash.
