Kuwait is located in the northwestern part of the Arabian Gulf, between Saudi Arabia in the south and Iraq in the north and has sovereignty over nine small islands in the Arabian Gulf. It lies in a semi-tropical region with a total area of about 18,000 Km. Starting in 1950; the city witnessed a renaissance in construction and housing based on successive well-planned governmental projects to modernize the city.

The Kuwaiti people were known for their shipbuilding skills. They gained mastery in it, modified the conventional styles of ships and developed other styles of building ships that increased their durability, making them better able to cross the seas and the oceans. Also, being engaged in pearl diving Kuwait played an important role in economics of the Gulf region. Discovery of petroleum in 1938 led to another boom in the economy and success in its development. The national savings surplus was transferred to foreign countries to be invested in international markets. In fact, the great contribution of the petroleum sector in Kuwait’s economy reflects its dominance over economic activities.

Kuwait maintains significant global importance as a major exporter of crude oil and natural gas.
